About the Author

My name is Samuel Schabel. I was born in Kansas City in the late-80’s, to my parents Joseph and Kathryn. I grew up with them and my three beautiful little sisters in Missouri, Kansas, Georgia, and Texas. I grew up a bit of a rebellious skeptic, with my mother often dragging us to church services at Catholic, Presbyterian, and Baptist churches.

I played sports year-round while growing up, and loved being outdoors. I never had the privilege (or perhaps curse) of watching a ton of television or playing a lot of video games, so books became my main source of entertainment outside of sports and playing outdoors.

After deciding not to pursue playing full-time basketball during college, I chose to focus primarily on my academics. I graduated from Dallas Baptist University in the spring of 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, minor in Biblical Studies and Greek. (I’m planning to resume my studies in a Masters of Theology/Philosophy when circumstances allow it.)

I married my sweet, beautiful, amazing bride Kathryn, in July 2011. (Yep, oddly the same name as my mother.) Kat, as I affectionately call my wife, and I have been serving at Vintage Church Allen since the summer of 2010. I am currently working in retail. In my spare time I enjoy running and playing basketball.

A life verse of mine: “When my life was fainting away, I remembered the Lord, and my prayer came to You, into Your holy temple. Those who pay regard to vain idols forsake their hope of steadfast love.” – Jonah
